Alberto Grazzi, basson
Alberto Grazzi, principal bassoonist in the “Concentus Musicus Wien” founded by N. Harnoncourt and a founding member of “Ensemble Zefiro”, has been active in the early music field for over 30 years. In 1985, he was selected as a member of the “European Baroque Orchestra”, and since the early 2000s, he has been a tutor for the orchestra during its annual courses.
Between 1985 and 2000, he was a member of “Il Giardino Armonico”, “Hesperion XX” and “Concerts des Nations” directed by J. Savall, as well as collaborating with leading orchestras in Europe. In 1989, Alberto Grazzi won the audition as principal bassoonist in “The English Concert” directed by T. Pinnock and held the position until 2019, touring worldwide and recording dozens of CDs for Deutsche Grammophon/Archive both as an orchestral member as well as soloist.
In the same year, he, with his brother Paolo and Alfredo Bernardini, founded “Ensemble Zefiro”, devoted to rediscovering and promoting early music with a leading wind instrument role. With “Ensemble Zefiro”, he recorded about thirty CDs, including solo concertos by J. F. Fasch, A. Vivaldi, and W. A. Mozart.
Alberto Grazzi holds masterclasses in Italy and abroad, as well as teaching during summer courses. Since 2011, he has been teaching baroque and classical bassoon at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan.
